REDUCING BIAS & DISCRIMINATION THROUGH MINDFULNESS, COMPASSION, & COLORINSIGHT PRACTICES

By understanding the nature of the mind, we can alleviate injustices and suffering that results from implicit bias, prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination of all kinds. Evidence demonstrates that we all have bias. We also have the capacity to diminish our personal bias and impact the bias and actions of others through mindfulness, compassion, and insight practices. These strategies develop awareness, reduce unconscious physiologic  emotional responses, and foster a sense of interconnectedness and strength to avoid discrimination. These practices can be brought into families, the workplace, classrooms, government, healthcare, first response, and to strangers for broad impact. In this way, individual and generational bias and conflict can be interrupted.

During this workshop, participants will learn about the basic neurobiology of bias and discrimination, as well as practice mindfulness, compassion, and other exercises that have the power to shape great personal and societal transformation.
